Personal Best - Caffeine - A Legal Performance Booster - NYTimes.com

fortytwopointtwo:

I’ve been using my Googling skills to research feeling weak (okay, as my brother calls it, PANTY) when I’ve run or worked out since I gave up caffeine.

Here’s the weird part: It’s been over a month and I totally don’t miss coffee/lattes/or any of the other high octane drinks I used to ingest. I have an amazing espresso maker sitting idle.

I miss the vicious, heart pounding drive when chasing down the next kilometre, but love the placid calm I constantly feel at all other times. Sometimes a little too calm.

How about you? Do you need caffeine for your edge?

I’m going through the same thing myself now. I’m trying to stop drinking coffee now- which isn’t so bad. I got to where it seemed silly to wake up early to run and then feel awake and drink coffee at work. It definitely makes me more anxious with the type of energy it gives — so yes to the rush of pounding out the miles. And I think coffee for now will be sort of an irregular treat
